In this list, we’ll talk about celebrities who on the big screen or during their games might seem a little crazy but in reality are very religious! Let’s go over them.
Candace Cameron Bure
She starred in the series Full House and many people do not know that she is very religious. Her brother, Kirk, became an actor and public Christian evangelist then Candace followed by becoming more public with her faith in the late 1990’s.
She also said that her faith in Christ helped her battle with Bulimia.
Stephen Colbert
This TV host grew up in a devout Catholic home and is a Catholic. He may act or portray himself in a way that questions the church’s teaching but Colbert still practices Catechism and teaches Sunday school.
He has even embarrassed a man during an interview who suggested that God created evil.
Donny and Marie Osmond
They are two of nine children and were raised as members of The Church of Jesus Christ. Donny opposes same-sex marriage but doesn’t condemn gay people.
He stated that they should be accepted in the church as long as they are celibate.
Patricia Heaton
She is not shy about making her faith or opinions heard. Born into Catholicism, she embraced Evangelical Protestantism as an adult.
Now she goes to a Presbyterian church and speaks on behalf of an anti-abortion group called Feminists for Life regarding social issues.
David Archuleta
He is a Mormon who is very involved with the Church of Jesus Christ. Archuleta went to the extent to putting his music career on hold in 2012 so he could go to Chile and do some church volunteer work.
He’s been a devout Christian for many years.
Tim Tebow
This professional football player is not only winner of the Heisman Trophy but is also an Evangelical Christian and is known for his religious faith just as much as he is known for his athletic performance. He travels the country and the world to spread Christianity.
He strongly believes in abstinence prior to marriage and states that he himself is a virgin and plans to remain so until he’s married.
Kirk Cameron
An Evangelical Christian who was formerly an atheist until the age of 17 when he surprisingly turned to Christianity to be a born-again Christian. He is very active in the church and uses his celebrity status to help promote Christianity.
He has taken controversial stances over the years where he has linked the Theory of Evolution with Nazi genocide and he has a very strong stance against homosexuality and says that it destroys the foundations of society.
Mayim Bialik
She is a Jewish woman who majored in Hebrew Studies, Jewish Studies and Neuroscience at UCLA. Her husband was previously a Mormon but converted to Judaism right before they got married.
She considers herself a Modern Orthodox Jew and has made appearances in a number of videos promoting Jewish beliefs.
Richard Gere
His religion of choice is Buddhism and is one of the most outspokenly religious celebrities. He was raised in a Methodist home and had a love for Philosophy during his short lived college experience. He became enraptured with Buddhism while on a trip to Nepal in the ’70s.
Since then he has become a practicing Buddhist.
Tom Cruise
He is a scientologist who claims the church helped him overcome dyslexia, which he had as a child. He’s very involved in the church and is one of the top advocates for its beliefs and policies, some of them being controversial. He claims that humans descended from some sort of alien.
It may seem crazy but he does believe in his religion.
Madonna
She was raised a Roman Catholic but in 1996 became a devout follower of Kabbalah which is a mystical offshoot of Judaism.
She elaborated on her theological outlook, saying that she studied Kabbalah and follows religious practices that have to do with Judaism where she observes the Shabbat or holding a bar mitzvah for her son.
Tina Turner
This entertainer is a longtime Buddhist where she started practicing in the 1970s while struggling to stop an abusive relationship with musician Ike Turner.
She considers it somewhat of a mission and a passion to spread her religious beliefs by talking through the media about it or by doing interviews with Buddhist affiliated organizations.
Emmanuelle Chriqui
She is a Jewish actress whose parents were Orthodox Sephardic Jews and was raised in a very observant and kosher home. She remains observant and gives credit to her faith for providing her with spiritual balance that keeps her grounded.
She may not seem too religious on screen but she’s has some deep seeded faith.
Roma Downey
The actress grew up with a Presbyterian mom and a Catholic dad. She says that faith is deeply important to her and has been since she was a child. She was raised in a family of faith.
Downey states that she has always found deep comfort in her religion and was particularly thrilled in the early 90s when she was casted to play an angel on Touched by An Angel that ran for almost 10 years and delivered the message of God’s love.
John Travolta
The famous actor is another popular celebrity that is associated with the Church of Scientology.
He’s been involved with the church since 1975 and has helped the church generously with his time and money to help advance the church’s goals and to give aid in its humanitarian missions.
Chris Matthews
He considers himself a devout Catholic and attends church regularly. However, he is also known for his liberal positions on many social issues that are against the church, mostly regarding abortion and gay marriage.
He is not afraid to speak out against the Church when he disagrees with them.
Donny Osmond
He was married in the Salt Lake Temple and is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints. He is against same sex marriage but says that homosexuals should be accepted in the Mormon Church if they remain celibate.
However, Osmond has yet to serve a mission to promote the faith as most Mormons do.
Mark Wahlberg
He has shown to take religion pretty seriously. In 2007, he showed off his bedroom, which contained holy water and an exact replica of a crucifixion art piece that stands at the Vatican.
He frequently attends mass and tries to pray before meals and every night before bed.
Denzel Washington
This famous actor is a devout Christian who claims that he seriously considered becoming a preacher. He has donated millions of dollars to rebuild churches in Los Angeles and says that he reads the Bible daily.
He grew up knowing the Bible because he was the son of a preacher.
Prince
The singer was raised as a 7th Day Adventist and then converted to Jehovah’s Witness in 2001. He’s very active in the church and offers his help whenever the accept it. He is not only a public leader but also a spiritual leader as well.
He was in search of answers to many questions he had and found them all with the Jehovah’s Witness.
Tyler Perry
He’s a devout Christian and it shows in all of his works. As he has said, he is not afraid to show his character, say that he is a Christian and that he believes in God. He is proud of his religious belief and puts his faith in God.
He is truly one of the most religious celebrities out there.
